Kinetically Driven Spatial Canopies

Kinetically Driven Spatial Canopies

So much of kinetic architecture are built as solar facades. The aim of this project was to expand beyond light and shadow and create dynamic spacial changes through kinetics. Inspired by the ephemeral atmosphere created by Jean Nouvel Aperatures in the Arab World Institute, the canopy of the project aimed to play with opacity and transparency to create an ephemeral lighting quality. To modulate space we were inspired by origami. The different degrees of folding allowed for gradient spatial arrangements. The array of folding tents could be combined to create varying patterns through the differing heights and degrees of fold.
